Wi-Fi use outside the home rises sharply - Telecompaper
2015-04-29 10:28:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Fewer Dutch people are making use of only home Wi-Fi access, a consequence of Wi-Fi becoming more available outside thanks to KPN and Ziggo hotspots and Wi-Fi network expansions, according to the latest Consumer Panel report by Telecompaper. The report revealed that the percentage of Dutch people accessing Wi-Fi only at home fell to 23 percent in 2015 from 53 percent in 2011. With the growing penetration of smartphones and tablets (61% of Dutch households owned at least one tablet in late 2014), it is becoming easier to acess Wi-Fi outside the home, with friends, in restaurants or at libraries. Especially the use of free Wi-Fi hotspots soared in the last few years, both for password-protected public WiFi hotspots and Wi-Fi access via own-provider hotspots. Operators like KPN and Ziggo, which merged with UPC in April, have built up an extensive Wi-Fi network open to private customers.

North American stock markets enjoyed a solid lift Wednesday on indications that the U.S. Federal Reserve is in no rush to move interest rates away from near zero, where they've been since the 2008 financial crisis. The S&P/TSX composite index ran up 63.71 points to 14,962.24 as the Fed said that it first wants to see further improvement in the economy, particularly in job creation and inflation levels.

2015-03-11 18:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Yale Environment 360: Within a decade, the earth and particularly the northern hemisphere will begin warming at rates unprecedented in the last 1,000 to 2,000 years, according to new research in the journal Nature Climate Change. Examining the rate of temperature increases in 40-year intervals over the past 2,000 years, the scientists concluded that temperatures had fluctuated up or down by about 0.2 degrees F over each interval. In the past 40 years, however, warming has approached 0.4 degrees F per decade. And beginning...
