Burst Oil Pipeline In California Severely Corroded, Investigators Say

The pipeline that ruptured and spilled more than 100,000 gallons of crude oil along the California coastline near Santa Barbara last month was badly corroded, according to federal investigators. The Pipeline And Hazardous Materials Safety Administration says preliminary findings indicate the pipeline was "experiencing active external corrosion," and that metal loss amounted to 45 percent of the pipeline wall where the pipe broke.
