2014-02-24 08:30:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Wilocity announced the Wil6300 chipset, the world's first 802.11ad, multi-gigabit Wi-Fi chipset for mobile phones. The new chipset will give phone users 4.6 Gbps bandwidth, over 10 times faster than current Wi-Fi, as well as improve network capacity. Wilocity already ships 802.11ad products to the PC market and has shipped more than a million units since their introduction in February 2013. 802.11ad is the newest generation of Wi-Fi technology, using the 60 GHz band, and is supported by the Wi-Fi Alliance through the WiGig certification programme. Wilocity's chipset uses 28nm manufacturing and offers reduced power consumption and size, at 200-300 mW range for streaming video and other typical user scenarios and less than 1mW when idle. Prototypes of the new chipset will be shown at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and the new chipset will be available for sampling in Q3.
