Maximizing oil recovery in offshore fields can require a myriad of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques which can add complexity at subsea depths. In 2012, Petrobras was seeking to couple high pressure carbon dioxide (CO2) injection with other unconventional EOR techniques. While used extensively in onshore fields, offshore CO2 injection, especially in deep water developments, adds an extra level of complexity that had not previously been employed.

Water regulators seek charges in Santa Barbara oil spill

The Texas oil company whose pipeline ruptured this spring near Santa Barbara has been referred to California's Attorney General for potential charges. Water quality regulators said Monday that they asked Kamala Harris to prosecute Plains All American Pipeline in connection with the May 19 oil spill that gushed thousands of gallons of crude at Refugio State Beach - the largest petroleum accident along the California coast in 25 years.

Cottonwood Creek, Inc. To Pay $170,000 For Clean Water Act Violations At Oil Pumping Facility In Big Horn County, Wyoming

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced a settlement with Enid, Oklahoma-based Cottonwood Creek, Inc. in which the company has agreed to pay a $170,000 penalty to resolve alleged violations of the Clean Water Act related to oil pollution at the Bonanza Station in Big Horn County, Wyoming.
