InterDigital, Intel, Vivo withdraw from Mobile World Congress

(Telecompaper) InterDigital is the latest company to withdraw from Mobile World Congress, concerned about the continuing coronavirus outbreak. CEO William Merritt said the company will be reaching out to its various stakeholders to discuss better ways of showing new technologies to them. The company does plan to take part in the important discussions "that always take place in Barcelona," the CEO said.

Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo partner on apps store alternative - report

(Telecompaper) Chinaese smartphone makers Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and Vivo are joining forces to create a platform for developers outside China to upload apps onto all of their app stores simultaneously, Reuters reports. People familiar with the matter said the four companies are working on the final details of what will be known as the Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA).

Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi form alliance to support WiFi Direct on phones

(Telecompaper) The Chinese phonemakers Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi announced an agreement to make it easier for their customers to transfer files between phones. The 'Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance' formed by the companies has committed to supporting Wi-Fi Direct on devices, allowing customers to transfer files in a single click between devices of different brands without the need for an internet connection.

Telxius agrees to acquire 1,909 Brazil towers from Vivo

(Telecompaper) Telefonica's infrastructure subsidiary Telxius has announced an agreement to acquire 1,909 towers in Brazil from the group's local unit Telefonica Brasil (Vivo) for a total of BRL 641 million (around EUR 140 million). The deal, subject to approvals from Brazil's antitrust authority CADE, will double the size of Telxius in Brazil to 3,850 owned sites, consolidating its position as one of the main neutral infrastructure operators in the country.

Vivo launches franchising model for FTTH network expansion

(Telecompaper) Telefonica Brasil has confirmed plans to franchise its Vivo Fibra brand to support expansion of its broadband services. The operator will work with local partners and offer quality internet services to small ISPs across Brazil. Vivo offers the technical knowledge in the implementation of a fibre network, and marketing experience of its products and services.
