SK Telecom reaches over 1 mln joyn subscribers

(Telecompaper) Korean operator SK Telecom announced the milestone of over 1 million subscribers for its joyn services, just 50 days after launching the messaging service. The GSMA, which has worked with global operators to develop the joyn brand and services, said that SK Telecom's success should encourage other operators to adopt joyn. SK has steadily added to its service, most recently in late January giving its smartphone customers on flat-rate plans unlimited joyn SMS/IMS services. Data fees incurred from sending/receiving messages over the service are not deducted from subscribers' data allowances. In future joyn will be integrated with the VoLTE service, supporting HD Voice. This will allow customers to send videos and files during a LTE voice call. Furthermore, SK Telecom plans to open up the joyn APIs to developers to launch services such as games, SNS and mobile commerce.

TELUS TV subscribers up 33% to 678,000 in 2012

TELUS has reported fourth quarter 2012 results. TV additions in the quarter - both IP-based Optik TV and satellite TELUS TV - were 41,000. The total TV subscriber base of 678,000 was up 33 per cent or 169,000 from a year ago.

Rogers digital cable subscribers down 7,000 during 2012

Rogers Communications has announced results for the three months ended December 31, 2012. Cable TV subscribers fell by 83,000 in 2012 with digital cable TV subscribers only falling by 7,000 owing to an increase in digital penetration from 77% to 80% during the year.

DIRECTV Latin America subscribers up 31% in 2012; U.S. flat at 20 million

DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) has reported results for the fourth quarter of 2012. DIRECTV U.S. ended the quarter with 20.08 million subscribers, an increase of 1% compared with December 31, 2011. DTVLA ended the quarter with 10.33 million subscribers, an increase of 31% compared with the end of 2011.
SingTel 'mio TV' subscribers reach 400,000

SingTel has reported results for its third quarter ended December 31, 2012. mio TV added 7,000 customers in the quarter to reach 398,000 customers at the end of 2012. It recently crossed the 400,000 customer milestone.
