Through Significant New Use Rules, EPA is taking action to protect the public from certain chemicals that can cause health effects ranging from cancer to reproductive and developmental harm to people and aquatic organisms. Final action enables EPA to restrict or limit any new uses of these chemicals, including imported goods with these chemicals. Action addresses most uses of certain benzidine-based dyes; DnPP, a phthalate; and Alkanes C 12-13, chloro, a short-chain chlorinated paraffin.

EPA is taking action to protect the public from 7 ethylene glycol ethers or glymes chemicals that can cause health effects including birth defects and blood toxicity. Significant New Use Rule will allow EPA to review any proposed new uses of these chemicals to ensure that human health and the environment are protected. EPA believes that new uses of these chemicals should not be allowed without an opportunity for review and, if necessary, place restrictions on these chemicals, as warranted.
