Fitch forecasts slight global growth for European automakers

According to Fitch Ratings, the carmakers that have European roots - including the second-largest global automaker Volkswagen AG - will benefit from a modest rise in worldwide new-car deliveries. Together with the savings coming from lowering cost expenses and the slight global increase in sales, the credit ratings of the European automakers' will get a modest boost.

Sony forecasts growth in gaming, components

(Telecompaper) Sony hopes to finish restructuring of its mobile business in the fiscal year ending in March 2016, making it profitable from the next fiscal year, the company said. "Our urgent task is to make the business profitable even if sales drops by 20-30 percent," said Hiroki Totoki, head of the mobile business, at a meeting with investors reported by the Wall Street Journal. Sony believes the smartphone industry is already matured, so it plans to focus on marketing on existing customers, instead of new ones, Totoki said. While the company did not provide any new forecasts for the mobile business beyond the current financial year, when it's expected to remain in the red, it did give updated forecasts for other divisions. The company forecast growth in the gaming and components division, a stable camera business and improved profitability at its home entertainment business making TVs. Sony said it would give a new three-year forecast for the mobile business by the end of the current financial year.

Intel raises dividend, forecasts growth in 2015

(Telecompaper) Intel announced an increase in its dividend and forecast growth in 2015 at its annual investor meeting. The cash dividend will increase by 6 cents to USD 0.96 per share on an annual basis, beginning with the Q1 dividend. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that Intel's highest shareholder value will come from a strategy to use the core assets that drive the company's PC and data centre businesses to move into profitable, complementary market segments. Intel's leading-edge manufacturing capability, architecture and the use of shared IP are key elements of the growth strategy. For 2015, the company revenue growth in the mid-single digits, a gross margin of 62 percent, plus or minus two points, R&D and MG&A spending as a percent of revenue to be lower and capital spending of approximately USD 10.5 billion.
