Late last year, Tempe, Arizona-based ClearData, which provides cloud computing security services for the health care industry, hired former Rackspace Hosting Inc. executive Scott White to lead its new office in San Antonio. Start-up investment drops in Dallas and Texas

Venture capitalists invested less money in young companies in North Texas and statewide in the second quarter even as national funding reached a level not seen since the dot-com boom in 2000. Seven North Texas companies raised $37 million - the smallest quarterly amount in three years, according to the MoneyTree report by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, with data from Thomson Reuters.
