Alcatel-Lucent to raise EUR 1 bln in convertible bonds issue
2014-06-02 09:06:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Alcatel-Lucent announced an offering of EUR 1 billion in convertible bonds. Part of its ongoing restructuring efforts known as the Shift Plan, the offering includes EUR 600 million of bonds due 30 January 2019 and EUR 400 million maturing on 30 January 2020. The bookrunners have an option to increase the issues by up to 10 percent. The proceeds will be used to pay off USD 1.75 billion on the company's senior secured credit facility in the US, which should extend the group's debt profile and reduce the amount of interest due. The bonds will be issued at a premium to Alcatel's share price, at 35-40 percent for the 2019 bonds and 32-37 percent for the 2020 bobds. They will pay little to no interest and be convertible one-to-one in Alcatel shares. They will be listed in Paris.
Docomo, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, NEC test NFV feasibility
2014-05-27 12:41:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Japanese telecommunications operator NTT Docomo is working separately with vendors Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco and NEC, and has completed proof-of-concept (PoC) trials verifying the feasibility of network functions virtualization (NFV). Using the virtualized Evolved Packet Core (EPC), the core network of LTE systems, Docomo and each of the three vendors verified network control mechanisms, such as scalable user-data processing capability. Following these PoC trials, Docomo now plans to commercially deploy services utilizing a virtualized mobile network by the fiscal year ending in March 2016. The company has been cooperating with the three vendors on this feasibility verification since November 2013.

Mobily deploys Alcatel-Lucent virtualised RAN
2014-05-27 10:52:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Alcatel-Lucent and Saudi operator Mobily announced the first deployment globally of virtualized radio access network (RAN) software from Alcatel-Lucent's Network Function Virutalisation (NFV) portfolio. Mobily is deploying Alcatel-Lucent's 9771 Wireless Cloud Element Radio Network Controller (WCE RNC). Running virtual radio network control functions over open, carrier-grade platforms provides considerable advantages over traditional approaches, according to Alcatel-Lucent. This facilitates advanced RNC requirements for geo-redundancy, near-zero downtime maintenance and software upgrades, load balancing, and dynamic reconfiguration.

Alcatel-Lucent narrows losses, revenues stable in Q1
2014-05-09 08:54:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Alcatel-Lucent returned to an adjusted operating profit of EUR 33 million in the first quarter, compared to a loss of EUR 179 million a year earlier. The result was helped by cost reductions, with improved profitability at its Core Networking division and reduced losses in the Access division. The net loss narrowed to EUR 73 million from EUR 353 million a year ago, also supported by fewer restructuring charges and lower financial losses. Operating cash flow was still negative, at EUR 59 million versus a negative EUR 279 million a year earlier. Revenues from continuing operations were up 0.3 percent year-on-year at constant exchange rates to EUR 2.963 billion. This excludes the Enterprise division up for sale. CEO Michel Combes said the results provided a good basis to build on in the rest of 2014 and works towards the company's goal of positive free cash flow in 2015.
