Sprint Corp., the nation's third-biggest cellphone carrier, said it is cutting an unspecified number of jobs this month to reduce costs as it tries to better compete with AT&T and Verizon, and hinted that more layoffs are possible. "We're still working through the details so exact numbers and locations are not available at this time," Sprint spokeswoman Roni Singleton said in an email on Friday.

Vodafone NZ sinks into the red as finance, operating costs mount

Vodafone New Zealand, the country's biggest mobile phone operator, reported its first annual loss since 2000 as related party finance costs from its TelstraClear acquisition and rising cost of sales weighed on the bottom line. The Auckland-based company posted a loss of $27.9 million in the 12 months ended March 31, from a profit of $55.9 million a year earlier, according to financial statements lodged with the Companies Office.

NCR Corp. gets $93 million for Fox River cleanup costs

Four companies, including Appleton's Appvion Inc., have agreed to pay NCR Corp. a total of $93 million for costs NCR incurred to clean up the Fox River in Wisconsin from April 2012 through Oct. 1, 2014. Details were included in a regulatory filing from Paperweight Development Corp., the Appleton-based parent company of Appvion Inc. Under the agreement, Appvion, which is the former Appleton Papers Inc., agreed to pay $6 million.
