French security agency confirms limited role for Huawei equipment in 5G roll-outs

(Telecompaper) The head of French security agency ANSSI, Guillaume Poupard, has confirmed that the country's mobile network operators will be permitted to invest in Huawei equipment for their 5G deployments, although restrictions will apply to encourage the use of alternative European-based suppliers. Talking to Les Echos, Poupard said that the security agency had completed its assessment of the first authorisation requests for the roll-out of 5G equipment in a number of French cities, under the new procurement regime put in place by the government at the end of 2019.

With the launch of 5G in South Korea last month, the age of 5G is finally upon us. As the rest of the world looks to follow South Korea's lead, operators around the globe are going into 5G overdrive in a bid to rollout their next generation mobile networks. Ericsson says ready for 5G roll-outs, blames Europe delays on spectrum, regulation

(Telecompaper) Ericsson said it is spectrum and regulation, and not access to equipment and technology that is putting the roll-out of 5G at risk in Europe. In a blog post, Ericsson CEO Borje Ekholm said his company has the resources ready to roll out 5G with market leaders, but European customers are facing high levels of uncertainty.
