San Miguel Corp. said Monday that its net profit between January and September surged from the same period a year ago, as the Philippine conglomerate's diversification enabled it to withstand a margin squeeze suffered by its main revenue generator, oil refiner Petron Corp. The company posted a nine-month net profit of 13.2 billion pesos , up 75% from a year earlier.
