(Telecompaper) There was major news concerning the largest incumbents of Europe, Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefonica, in week 48. Infrastructure dealings and a number of unlisted companies demanded some attention as well. The Telecompaper European Telecom Services index ended the week up 0.7%. The EuroStoxx 50 index was up 0.4 percent. As a result, the year-to-date underperformance of the telecoms sector was stable at around 14 points. There were two double digit winners, Tele Columbus (+28%) and Syn (Vodafone Iceland, +14%).

(Telecompaper) Telefonica has announced a major organisational restructure following a meeting of its board of directors. The company's 5-point plan to generate more than EUR 2 billion a year in additional revenues from 2022 onwards involves prioritising its four key markets of Spain, Brazil, Germany and the UK, carrying out an "operational spin-off" of its Latin American business and setting up a subsidiary for its cloud, cybersecurity and Internet of Things (IoT) businesses called Telefonica Tech and another for its infrastructure assets called Telefonica Infra.

International telecoms giant, Telefonica, has unveiled a 5-point plan to streamline its business operations and generate an additional €2 billion in new revenues by 2022.
