A subcontractor representative at the site from Zebra Environmental & Industrial Services, based in High Point, said on Monday the workers were removing the underground gas tanks. The representative said the dirt is ultimately taken to an official site for contaminated dirt by ES & J in Autryville and the tanks are cleaned onsite and taken to a scrap metal facility.
