SK Telecom's Q3 profit jumps more than 44% on equity gains from SK Hynix unit

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator SK Telecom posted revenue of KRW 4.73 trillion for the third quarter of 2020, which represents an increase of 3.7 percent year-on-year. Operating income reached KRW 361.5 billion, growing by 19.7 percent in the period. Growth was mainly boosted by improved performance of SK Telecom's mobile communication business and steep growth of its new businesses, the company said. Net income jumped 44.2 percent year-on-year, boosted by increased equity method gains from SK Hynix.

Intel sells Nand memory, storage business to SK hynix for USD 9 billion

(Telecompaper) South Korean chipmaker SK hynix has agreed to buy Intel's Nand memory and storage business for USD 9 billion. SK hynix said the move will enhance the competitiveness of its storage services, including enterprise SSDs, in the rapidly growing Nand flash space, and push it to the fore as one of the world's leading semiconductor companies. Intel said it will invest the money received into "leadership products" and to advance its long-term growth priorities, including artificial intelligence, 5G networking and the intelligent, autonomous edge.

China regulators investigate foreign chip makers Micron, Samsung, SK Hynix

(Telecompaper) Chinese regulators have launched an investigation into memory-chip makers US-based Micron Technology, South Korea's Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The three companies report that State Administration for Market Regulation officials have recently visited their offices in China. The regulator did not comment on the matter, Reuters reports. Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix, the dominant suppliers of DRAM chips, said they are cooperating with the investigators, but did not release any details about what the probe is about.
