Nucor Corp. has filed a lawsuit seeking to halt construction of the Big River Steel electric-arc-furnace steel mill, which is being built in Mississippi County, Arkansas, in the city of Osceola, which is also the site of the company's headquarters. The steel company, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, says its complaint centers on the way BRS obtained an air permit for the project.

N.C. WARN Executive Director Jim Warren says the ruling allows Duke Energy to reduce charges to large industrial users at the expense of small customers. The N.C. Supreme Court has upheld the most recent Duke Energy Carolinas rate increase, ruling in the last of a spate of challenges to Duke utility rate cases filed by the N.C. Attorney General's Office and advocacy groups.

A Jan. 29 pretrial was set for Kenneth T. Smith, 30, Grafton Road, Leetonia, charged with five counts of theft for allegedly taking a 4000W Champion Generator, a 32-inch Phillips flat screen TV, a Craftsman 33-gallon air compressor, a Craftsman 2200 PSI pressure washer and a Black and Decker mini refrigerator from the property where he lives without permission of the owner on different dates in 2014 and 2015.
