A lawsuit filed Thursday accuses Seattle of violating residents' civil rights by requiring trash collectors to snoop through people's garbage to check for items such as half-eaten hamburgers and used pizza boxes. The Pacific Legal Foundation argues in its lawsuit filed in King County Superior Court that the Seattle ordinance prohibiting food waste, which went into effect Jan. 1, "treats state constitutional protections as disposable."

Port Allen company sued by DEQ over possible overpayment through Waste Tire Management Program

The state Department of Environmental Quality sued a Port Allen waste tire recycling company that it claims delivered tons more of recycled tires than allowed for projects the state had approved, but still charged the a state-un fund for the full amount. DEQ claims the company delivered 46 million pounds of recycled tires beyond what had been pre-approved by the state agency.

Waste disposal company Stericycle Inc said it would buy privately held Shred-it International, a secure information destruction services provider, for $2.3 billion in cash. The deal is expected to add at least 10 percent to cash earnings per share by 2016, rising to the mid-to-high teens in 2018, the companies said in a statement.
