Japan August household spending picks up, eases concern about economy

Japan's household spending rose in August for the first time in three months and the availability of jobs improved to its best in more than two decades, which could temper concerns that the economy has fallen into a recession. The 2.9 percent annual increase in household spending in August was more than the median estimate for a 0.4 percent year-on-year increase and followed a 0.2 percent annual decline in July as consumers bought more cars.

Monthly Confidence Index eases in September.

According to September 2015 Monthly Confidence Index for the Equipment Finance Industry, confidence is 61.1, easing from sharp rise in the August index of 67.4. When asked to assess their business conditions over next 4 months, 22.2% of executives responding said they believe business conditions will improve, a decrease from 36.4% in August. Also, 29.6% of respondents believe demand for leases and loans to fund capex will increase over next 4 months, down from 40.9% in August.

Taiwan eases curbs on its firms making semiconductors in mainland China

Competition sparks change, which previously saw Taiwan restrict manufacturing activities of its prized semiconductor sector on mainland to protect intellectual property and trade secrets Taiwan has relaxed curbs on its companies setting up semiconductor manufacturing plants in mainland China, in a bid to enable them to better compete for mainland clients. The island's economics ministry said it would allow a maximum of three wholly-owned 12-inch wafer foundries to be set up on the mainland by Taiwanese companies, easing previous rules that limited such investments to mostly older technology and to joint ventures.
