Study resolves controversy over nitrogen's ocean 'exit strategies'
2014-04-11 08:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
PhysOrg: A decades-long debate over how nitrogen is removed from the ocean may now be settled by new findings from researchers at Princeton University and their collaborators at the University of Washington. The debate centers on how nitrogen-one of the most important food sources for ocean life and a controller of atmospheric carbon dioxide-becomes converted to a form that can exit the ocean and return to the atmosphere where it is reused in the global nitrogen cycle. BlackBerry CEO not ruling out exit of handset business
2014-04-10 12:29:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) BlackBerry would consider exiting its handset business if it remains unprofitable, CEO John Chen said. "If I cannot make money on handsets, I will not be in the handset business," Chen said in an interview with Reuters, adding that the time frame for such a decision was short. He would not be more specific, but said it should be possible to make money off shipments of as few as 10 million a year. Chen said BlackBerry remained on track to be cash-flow positive by the end of the current fiscal year, which runs to the end of February 2015, and to return to profit some time in the fiscal year after that. The company's focus remains on its core business customers, as well as associated services targeting secure communications and connected devices. Chen, who took over as CEO last November, said BlackBerry was also looking to invest in or team up with other companies in regulated industries such as healthcare, and financial and legal services, all of which require highly secure communications. Small acquisitions to strengthen BlackBerry's network security offerings were also possible, he added.
