Orange France unveils Livebox Play STB

(Telecompaper) Orange France has taken nearly 100,000 pre-orders in two weeks for its Livebox Play STB, set for release on 7 February. Livebox Play features many cutting-edge technologies and supports all customer screens, said the operator's executive director, Delphine Ernotte Cunci. Livebox Play supports up to 200 Mbps downloads and 50 Mbps over fibre, which can cut down the time needed to download a 700MB film from nearly 5 minutes to 28 seconds. Livebox Play services start at EUR 39 a month for unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in over 100 locations, TV and internet access. ADSL and fibre pricing is the same.

Guardian: Shops and offices throughout France will be forced to turn off their lights overnight in a bid to fight light pollution, the country's environment ministry has announced. Under the new law, which comes into effect on 1 July, lights in shop window displays will be turned off at 1am. Interior lights in offices and other non-residential buildings will have to be switched off an hour after the last employee leaves.
