Gap plans to close 175 of its namesake stores and 250 jobs at its headquarters as the company tries to strengthen the struggling brand. Gap Inc., which owns Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic, said Monday it will close about 140 Gap stores in North America in the fiscal year that ends Jan. 31 - and the remainder afterward - based on factors that include location and performance.

China Eastern has committed to doubling the number of flights between its Shanghai hub and Sydney and Melbourne by November on the condition its proposed alliance with Qantas Airways is approved, in a move meant to alleviate concerns from the competition regulator. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in March issued a surprise draft determination proposing to reject the proposed joint venture on the basis that they would have an incentive to raise prices or cut services on the Sydney-Shanghai route, where they are the dominant operators.

Fitch Ratings upgraded the rating on Nova Chemicals Corp.'s $1.7 billion in debt to BBB-minus and revised its rating outlook to stable from positive. Fitch said Nova has benefited from low-cost feedstocks at its Canadian plants, has strong cash balances, and has reduced its debt since being acquired in 2009 by International Petroleum Investment Co.
