Ofcom confirms 5G auction for spring 2020, drops coverage obligations

(Telecompaper) UK regulator Ofcom has confirmed plans for a new spectrum auction in spring 2020. The auction will include 80 MHz in the 700 MHz band and 120 MHz in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band to support the expansion of 5G services in the UK. Ofcom has notably dropped an earlier proposal for coverage obligations in the spectrum licences, after the British operators agreed to cooperate on improving rural coverage.

Eutelsat to deliver global satellite coverage for IoT with 25-strong ELO constellation

(Telecompaper) Eutelsat has presented the ELO constellation project, which will put into orbit up to 25 nanosatellites by 2022. ELO (Eutelsat LEO for Objects) was first unveiled in March 2018, when the operator placed the order for an initial test satellite, and announced a partnership with IoT network operator Sigfox.
