Palm oil firms ditch 'no deforestation' pact in Indonesia

Reuters: Major palm oil producers and traders, including Wilmar and Cargill ditched a "no deforestation" private agreement in Indonesia, saying the government's recent efforts to strengthen its certification standards were sufficient. Indonesia, the world's biggest producer and exporter of palm oil, moved in April to prohibit the use of new land to boost production. The country, home to the world's third-largest tropical forests, has been criticized by green activists and other Southeast Asian nations...

China says will ban IPOs by firms breaking environment protection rules

Reuters: China's securities regulator said on Friday it would ban initial public offerings (IPOs) by companies which have violated environmental protection rules over the previous 36 months. The China Securities Regulatory Commission said the move is part of Chinese efforts to combat pollution. The commission also said it would bar additional share sales by listed companies that break environmental rules, and will actively encourage companies to issue bonds to finance "green" business.
