Officials have denied a request by Exxon Mobil to temporarily use tanker trucks to transport crude oil through Santa Barbara County after a recent pipeline break and spill. The county's Planning and Development on Tuesday rejected the emergency permit application, saying it didn't meet the requirements for expedited review.

Exxon Mobil is requesting an emergency permit to allow transport of crude oil from Las Flores Canyon via truck on Highway 101. The Emergency Permit will allow temporary trucking of crude oil from the Santa Ynez Unit Facility in Las Flores Canyon to various offsite locations throughout the region including sites in Santa Barbara County and the Santa Maria Refinery in Nipomo.
