The head of the Federal Communications Commission says the agency will consider a petition to ban the Washington Redskins nickname from the public airwaves. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler says Tuesday that the commission "will be dealing with that issue on the merits, and we'll be responding accordingly."

FCC proposes new rules for unlicensed TV, 600 MHz bands

(Telecompaper) The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed to modify its Part 15 rules to accommodate growing demand and encourage innovation in the provision of wireless broadband data services. The Commission's Part 15 rules permit devices to operate on unused "white space" spectrum between TV stations. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking fulfils the Commission's commitment in the Incentive Auction Report and Order to consider changes to its existing Part 15 rules to facilitate unlicensed use of the television bands, 600 MHz Band guard band and channel 37.

Tom Wheeler, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has proposed new rules that would allow companies to pay Internet service providers for faster lanes to send video and other content to their customers. It’s a wonky question that has nonetheless inspired widespread online protests and a record-breaking deluge of public comments since the Federal Communications Commission announced earlier this year a proposal allowing service providers to charge for priority access, rather than treating all online content equally.
