Suncor Energy plans capital spending of between $7.2 billion and $7.8 billion in 2015, with the Calgary-based integrated oil giant saying average production is expected to be between 540,000 to 585,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. "Our production guidance for next year reflects a continued trend of improved reliability and steady growth," president and CEO Steve Williams said in a statement released Tuesday after markets closed.

Consumer confidence bodes well for holiday spending

Consumer confidence rose more than forecast in November, reaching a seven-year high and indicating Americans will be in the mood to step up holiday spending. The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary sentiment index increased to 89.4, exceeding the highest estimate in a Bloomberg survey and the strongest since July 2007, from a final reading of 86.9 in October.

FCC plans to probe AT&T's decision to pause fiber spending pending Net Neutrality rulings

The Federal Communications Commission has asked AT&T Inc. for documents pertaining to the company's decision to delay the build-out of its GigaPower fiber service in light of uncertainty about "net neutrality" rules. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said Friday in a Fox Business Network interview that the Dallas-based telecom giant can't invest billions of dollars in broadband without knowing what the regulations are going to be in the next few years.
