State Sen. Marko Liias wants Washington's attorney general to investigate Exxon Mobil, like New York and California's attorneys generals are doing right now. Last year, not long after the Los Angeles Times published a blockbuster investigation on what Exxon Mobil may have known about climate change as far back as the 1980s , a coalition of environmental groups wrote to Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson and asked him to investigate Exxon "under all applicable state laws."

The Securities and Exchange Commission has rejected Exxon Mobil's bid to block a shareholder proposal that would require it to disclose how its business will be affected by a 2-degree target limit on global warming. New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, trustee of New York's $178.3 billion pension fund for public workers, joined with the Church of England's investment fund and others in filing the proposal to be included in proxy materials.
