Notice given of planned lawsuit over Va. oil train terminal

Two environmental groups say they plan to sue over a Yorktown terminal that accepts trains carrying volatile crude oil from North Dakota's Bakken shale region. Media outlets report that the Center for Biological Diversity and the Sierra Club's Virginia chapter said Thursday they have given a 60-day notice of their plans to sue the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over the terminal's permit.

Evening delays on LIRR following derailment at train yard

The Long Island Rail Road says riders should expect delays and cancellations during this evening's commute following a train derailment at a rail yard in Manhattan. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says a train heading to Penn Station derailed in the West Side Storage Yard shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Study sets in train proposal for Northern Territory-Mount Isa rail link

Two years after floating the idea of connecting the Adelaide-Darwin rail link to the Ord in Western Australia, a study is under way to assess the prospect for connecting the line to Mount Isa in western Queensland. The study comes as the Northern Territory is also pushing to link its gas resources to the east coast, via a new gas pipeline, as APA puts forward several suggested routes.
