'Law laid down' on train whistles through White Rock

Mayor Wayne Baldwin said at last week's council meeting that Transport Canada "really laid down the law" at a meeting with Burlington Northern Santa Fe regarding protocol for train whistles between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. A Transport Canada communications officer confirmed to Peace Arch News that a meeting took place Sept. 24, however would not comment whether the threat of fines was levied.

Wireless service now available at PATCO train stations

Passengers on the PATCO commuter train line can now update their status, check email and play online games at stations in southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. The train line is announcing that it will offer WiFi service permanently at all 13 of its stations.

Amtrak train hits rocks on track, derails in central Vermont

An Amtrak train headed from Vermont to Washington, D.C., on Monday hit rocks that had fallen onto the track from a ledge, spilling the locomotive and a passenger car down an embankment, derailing three other cars and injuring seven people, authorities said. The Vermonter train, carrying 98 passengers and four crew members, derailed around 10:30 a.m. in Northfield, 20 miles southwest of Montpelier, they said.
