Food ingredients maker Tate & Lyle is set to implement a restructuring process, which will see the company leave the majority of its European bulk ingredients business and make changes to its Splenda sucralose division. The FTSE 250 group said it will receive 240m from Archer Daniels Midland, after agreeing to exit bulk ingredients plants in Bulgaria, Turkey and Hungary that are operated by both groups as part of a European corn wet-milling joint venture.

Tate & Lyle Plc is nearing a decision on how best to maximise returns from its struggling Splenda sucralose business and will communicate the result in coming weeks, the company said on Thursday. Tate's sucralose problems surfaced in February 2014, when the company discussed a dramatic drop in prices of the artificial sweetener it sells to food and drink makers, due to intense competition from cheaper Chinese rivals.

Tate & Lyle unveils Dolcia Prima allulose low-calorie-sugar: 'We believe this will change the food and beverage landscape forever' While allulose is found naturally in some fruits, Tate & Lyle is manufacturing it on a commercial scale via the enzymatic conversion of corn Tate & Lyle is launching a new ultra-low-calorie sugar that is found naturally in jackfruit and raisins, but is being made in commercial quantities via the enzymatic conversion of corn using a proprietary process. Dolcia Prima allulose has 70% of the sweetness of table sugar, but 90% fewer calories , and works well in combination with high intensity sweeteners such as stevia and sucralose.
