Blue-green algae was spotted floating on the Willamette River Tuesday in Portland, promoting the Oregon Health Advisory to issue a health advisory. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is studying samples of the blue-green algae cells to determine if they are the type with potential to produce toxins harmful to humans and animals.

State health and environment officials say they have found potentially toxic blue-green algae in the Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir in southern Idaho. It is the first time that the toxin has been detected in the Twin Falls County reservoir and the first time such a warning has been issued.
