Duke Energy has agreed to a $2.5 million settlement with Virginia over a massive coal ash spill that coated 70 miles of the Dan River in gray sludge, state environmental officials announced Friday. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality said the settlement would include $2.25 million in environmental projects that Duke would perform in communities affected by the spill in February 2014.

Sierra Club, Little Rock extend settlement of sewer overflow problems

The Arkansas Sierra Club and the Little Rock Wastewater Utility have agreed to extend until 2023 oversight in a settlement agreement to reduce sewer overflows. Parties said the sewer utility had made improvements but more time was needed to find ways to efficiently mitigate overflows.

As announced by U.S. EPA and Department of Justice, MTU America Inc (MTU), subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, will implement auditing program to ensure proper emissions testing and compliance with federal emission standards for its heavy-duty, diesel, non-road engines as part of settlement to resolve alleged Clean Air Act violations. Complaint alleges MTU sold 895 non-road, heavy-duty diesel engines without valid certificates of conformity.
