Environmental Services has almost completed construction of a project to remove stormwater from the sewer system using green street planters, which will reduce the possibility of basement backups into homes and businesses, and sewage overflows onto streets. The new planters will remove an average of 1.6 million gallons of stormwater annually from the sewer system.

Environmental Services will construct 6,800-feet of eight-inch gravity sewer in Terwilliger Boulevard from SW Powers Court to Highway 43. The new sewer will connect to the 30-inch Tryon Interceptor sewer, which carries sewage to the Tryon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lake Oswego. This improvement to Portlands wastewater collection system will help protect water quality, public health, and the environment.
