Nearly 12 billion internet-connected devices will be in use worldwide by the end of 2014, according to Strategy Analytics. That is equivalent to 1.7 devices for every person on the planet, a ratio which will rise to 4.3 by 2020.

Pernod Ricard's South Korean arm has been fined 10 billion Korean won by the country's National Tax Service, according to reports from Seoul and Paris. They say Pernod Ricard South Korea was found guilty of inflating advertising and other costs to lower its profits and thus its tax liability.

Pioneer, which has about 230,000 acres in the Eagle Ford Basin according to its website, sold a 45 percent interest in the property to Reliance for $1.2 billion in 2010. The Eagle Ford Basin asset is a three-way joint venture between Mumbai, India-based Reliance; Irving, Texas-based Pioneer, and a division of Mexico's Alpha SAB de CV to help sell its 45 percent stake, the sources said, asking not to be named because the matter is not public.

Venezuela must pay Exxon $1.6 billion for nationalizations: ICSID

A World Bank arbitration tribunal has determined Venezuela must pay Exxon Mobil Corp around $1.6 billion to compensate for a 2007 nationalization, the award posted on the ICSID website Thursday showed. A separate decision by the Paris-based ICC in 2012 ordered Venezuela state oil company PDVSA pay Exxon $908 million.
