With Solo Arrest, Bill McKibben Spotlights Exxon's 'Unparalleled Evil'
2015-10-16 19:49:11| Oil & Gas - Topix.net
Environmental activist and 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben was arrested on Thursday after staging a protest at a gas station in Burlington, Vermont to bring attention to Exxon Mobil's decades-long efforts to undermine climate action for the corporation's own gain-a strategy he called "unparalleled evil" in an op-ed for the Guardian on Wednesday. McKibben blocked a gas pump at Simon's Quick Stop and Deli Mobile station, armed with a sign that read, "This pump temporarily closed because Exxon Mobil lied about climate " with a link to a Tumblr page explaining his actions.

EcoWatch: Im not a Catholic, but credit where credit is due: at the very least Tuesdays arrival in America of the peoples Pope coincided with a small brace of minor miracles on the climate front. Early on Tuesday morning, Divest-Invest announced at press conference in New York that the new total of assets in endowments and portfolios divesting from fossil fuels has topped $2.6 trillion. Thats a 50-fold increase on last years numberand the year before that, we had precisely one college on board, with...

EcoWatch: When they say a picture is worth a thousand words, writers rebel (or they write 1,500 words). I mean, pictures are great, but they cant get across complicated concepts. Except when they can. Which would be the summer of 2015, on two separate occasions. Early in the summer, on the West Coast of the U.S., kayaktivists in Seattle Harbor surrounded Shell Oils giant Polar Pioneer drilling rig, trying to keep it from getting out of the harbor. They didnt succeed in that, of course--the Coast Guard...

Grist: Dear Secretary Clinton - In your husbands years in office, the greenhouse effect was still fairly novel science; even eight years ago, when you were first running for president, climate change was not yet really a top-tier issue. In a sense, then, this summer marks the first chance most Americans have to really find out what and how you think about global warming - the challenge that more than any other will color the economic and foreign policy landscape for the years ahead. In hopes you might...

Bill McKibben: People, not Exxon, own sky
2014-10-03 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
National Geographic: Last week in New York, climate change took center stage. More than a hundred heads of state gathered to discuss the issue at a United Nations summit-and demonstrators filled the streets of Manhattan in what has been dubbed "the largest climate march in history." The next step for climate negotiators is a meeting in Lima, Peru, later this year, followed by another in Paris in December 2015. There, it is hoped, diplomats will at last conclude the international agreement that has eluded them for...
