Location ESRIN, Frascati, Italy Description Atmosphere Scientist in the Data Applications Division , Science, Applications and Climate Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. Duties Providing scientific expertise and developing applications for atmospheric missions in exploitation fostering the use of free and open EO atmospheric data for research and applications enhancing scientific exploitation and data applications of EO atmospheric missions using latest information technologies and platforms engaging the atmospheric science community by organising dedicated scientific workshops and maintaining dialogue with users managing ESA studies for advancing Earth System Science in the atmospheric domain managing innovative RD activities in atmospheric science, EO open science, based on scientific and user community recommendations supporting the ESA Global Monitoring of Essential Climate Variable GMECV programme for atmospheric applications managing the development of nextgeneration open source toolboxes for scientific exploitation of atmospheric missions organising training courses for nextgeneration early career scientists and preparing massive open online courses in the atmospheric domain contributing to initiatives and cooperation with international partners in the EO atmospheric domain communicating on ESA studies results and EO mission achievements, promoting EO science benefits to society contributing to the Agencys public communication on EO and supporting public outreach maintaining personal scientific credibility supporting the work of Young Graduate Trainees and Research Fellows. Technical competencies Knowledge of atmospheric science Experience in the management and monitoring of research and development activities Experience in atmospheric physics Experience in remote sensing retrieval techniques ESA Earth Observation policies and programmes Behavioural competencies Ambassadorship Communication Problem solving Relationship management Teamwork Additional requirements Applicants should have specialist knowledge of the relevant types of data used on the Copernicus, future operational meteorology and Earth Explorer missions, and demonstrable experience from relevant scientific exploitation activities either internationally or in ESA Member States. They should provide a list of relevant scientific publications. Education Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline, preferably atmospheric chemistry, physics, geophysics or other appropriate scientific fields. They should have at least two years experience in atmospheric remotesensing techniques and research. Other information For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
