Last week in media: corporate actions at AT&T, Mediaset and Lions Gate, profit warning from Publicis

(Telecompaper) AT&T enjoyed a solid opening weekend for its much anticpated Joker movie. Sony is prepping the launch of its PlayStation 5 console for 2020 and Deezer may be aiming for a stock market listing by 2020. The courts halted the planned merger of Mediaset and Mediaset Spain, while AT&T sold its Latin America unit and Lions Gate was looking to spin off its Starz business. A profit waring turned Publicis into last week's biggest loser, down 17 percent. The Telecompaper Global Media index ended week 41 up 0.9 percent, ahead of the S&P 500 (+0.6%).

AT&T sells Puerto Rico, USVI assets to Liberty Latin America for USD 1.95 bln

(Telecompaper) AT&T has agreed to sell its operations in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to Liberty Latin America for USD 1.95 billion in cash, confirming earlier reports. In a statement, the US operator said it expects the deal to close within 6 to 9 months following review by the FCC and the Department of Justice. It added that the sale includes network assets, leases and real estate, 1.1 million mobile subscribers and contracts. A total of 1,300 current AT&T employees will move over to Liberty Latin America at the close of the deal.

Last week in media: Naspers down as Prosus is listed, AT&T under fire from Elliott, Facebook and Google under investigation

(Telecompaper) Last week, Naspers listed its consumer internet unit Prosus in Amsterdam. Walt Disney unexpectedly launched its much anticipated Disney+ service in a single country, the Netherlands, for a free trial until the official launch date in November. Naspers, as a result of the partial spin-off of Prosus, lost 30 percent in week 37. Other than that, IAC was the biggest loser, down 7.1 percent. The winners included Salem Media (+22%), comScore (+16%) and ProSieben (+15%). Our Global Media index was up 0.5 percent for the week, against a gain of 1.0 percent for the S&P 500 index.
