Refinery product spilled in Manitoba CN train derailment

Canadian National Railway Co said Thursday 13 train cars carrying refinery cracking stock, a petroleum product, derailed Wednesday night in rural Manitoba, and one car spilled some of the product onto the ground. The derailment was CN Rail's third in a week.

Manitoba's trucking industry can now take advantage of new provincial regulations allowing the use of new generation wide-base single tires that help reduce fuel consumption and improve gas efficiency, Jobs and the Economy Minister Kevin Chief and Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Ron Kostyshyn announced Monday. "We are listening to Manitoba companies that want to access more markets throughout Canada and the U.S.," said Chief.

Feds to fund Manitoba truck-training program

On Friday, the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages and Member of Parliament for Saint Boniface, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $268,000 to support the Manitoba Trucking Association to provide western Canadian truck drivers and managers with skills training and technology demonstrations. This investment, through the Western Diversification Program, will provide drivers and company managers with online and in-person skills training and knowledge transfer as well as technology demonstrations geared to encourage the adoption of the latest transportation technologies such as digital driver logs and logistics software.
