Methane Emissions Increase with Global Warming
2014-03-27 22:33:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Nature World: The amount of methane released from microorganisms dwelling in lakes and freshwater beds will increase severalfold for each degree Celsius the Earth's temperature rises, according to a new study. While much attention is given to climate change-linked rises in carbon dioxide, methane is roughtly 30 times more potent as a heat-trapping gas, and as temperatures rise, methane output from freshwater sources - the primary methane emissions source - will will outpace carbon dioxide output. In freshwater...

Track/Skid Steer Loaders offer non-DPF emissions solution.
2014-03-27 13:31:17| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Employing ultra-low particulate combustion (ULPC) engine, skid-steer loaders S630 and S650 and track loaders T630 and T650 are 74 hp, Tier 4, 600 frame-size loaders meet emissions standards without diesel particulate filter (DPF). While S630 and T630 have radius lift path, S650 and T650 have vertical lift path. All models offer 2-speed option, all-steel suspension, cab-forward design, and choice between foot pedal hydraulic controls, Advanced Control System, or Selectable Joystick Controls. UK greenhouse gas emissions fall by 2%
2014-03-27 11:16:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: UK greenhouse gas emissions fell by nearly 2% last year, as less coal and gas was burned to generate electricity. But official figures published on Thursday show that because of increases in 2010 and 2012, the UK's carbon footprint is still roughly the same as it was in 2009 despite government promises to cut emissions. The fall in 2013 is likely to provide some relief for ministers ahead of a major UN climate science report next week and a renewed push for an international climate change deal...

Australian town in fear of emissions and coal dust from power plant
2014-03-25 08:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: The coal mine and adjoining power station in the small Australian town of Anglesea suffers from not one, but two incongruities. Anglesea, in Victoria, unlike its windswept Welsh namesake, is a bucolic surf location that sees a huge influx of visitors as temperatures soar in the summer months. It's not your archetypal mining town, even to its residents. "People who visit here, or people who haven't lived here long don't know the mine is here," says local doctor Jacinta Morahan. "It's well hidden"....
EU emissions cuts could herald climate turning point
2014-03-25 03:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
New Scientist: The European Union is considering steep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. The EU only accounts for a fraction of total global emissions, but its actions could nevertheless have a big impact on future warming. Last week, the European Council met to discuss a proposal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent, relative to 1990 levels, by 2030. A new study suggests such a strong signal from Europe could help avoid dangerous climate change - if other countries follow suit. The European Union...
