UK plan to halve carbon emissions affordable, adviser says
2013-12-12 02:36:19| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Bloomberg: The U.K.'s ambition to cut carbon emissions by half is affordable and mustn't be watered down, the government's adviser on global warming said. "There is no reason to change the budget," John Gummer, chairman of the Committee on Climate Change and a member of the parliament's upper house, said in London. The advice is included in a report Wednesday that concludes a two-part review of Britain's target to reduce emissions by half by 2025 from 1990 levels. The goal caused friction between ministers...

Forbes: While most of the energy sectors attention this week has centered on the Supreme Courts review of pollution crossing state lines, a sizable portion of it has been targeted to what a federal court will decide with regard to mercury releases. The case is about whether coal-fired power plants should be required to install pollution controls that would limit mercury releases, which all sides concur is among the most insidious pollutants there is. Climate targets impossible unless rich cut emissions 10%
2013-12-10 09:59:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
RTCC: Rich countries need to reduce their carbon emissions by 10% every single year to stay beneath 2C of warming -- the upper limit for what scientists have deemed acceptable for mankind -- according to Kevin Anderson from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Speaking to RTCC in Warsaw, he argued that such reductions are necessary to ensure that a new climate deal is fair on developing countries, which he argues is entitled to the majority of the remaining carbon budget in order to catch...

EPA's Proposal will Increase Greenhouse Gas Emissions
2013-12-10 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
EPA's 2014 proposed rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard, which would for the first time cut biofuel use, will require using more petroleum and increase emissions of greenhouse gases. BIO utilized GREET1.2013 model to estimate changes in petroleum demand and associated CO2 equivalent emissions from both 2013 and statutory RFS levels for 2014. According to estimates, EPA proposal will result in an increase of more than 23 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
