2013-06-07 20:31:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Globe and Mail: The federal government confirmed Friday that it will match the United States on rules regulating emissions from vehicles. The new standards are designed to reduce air pollution from passenger cars and trucks beginning in 2017. They will be phased in between that year and 2025. Canadian regulations on the amount of sulphur in gasoline will also be harmonized with U.S. rules. The new regulations on gasoline will require oil companies to reduce the amount of sulphur in gasoline to 10 parts per million...

Sacramento Bee: Voters have sent a clear message on California's leadership role in reducing energy emissions and costs. By a 22-point margin, voters in 2010 rejected an oil industry-led voter initiative that sought to roll back implementation of the landmark Assembly Bill 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. The money from four cap-and-trade auctions a year February, May, August and November is supposed to go...

But votes in the European Parliament so far have backed a fairly robust version of the European Commission's original...
Brazil's GHG emissions fall 39% since 2005, now 10% below 1990 levels

Mongabay: Brazils greenhouse-gas emissions dropped 39 percent between 2005 and 2010, largely due to a reduction in deforestation, reports an inventory released yesterday by the Brazilian government. More than three-quarters of the 1.25 billion ton reduction in carbon dioxide emissions came from a drop on forest loss in the Amazon rainforest and surrounding cerrado ecosystem. Deforestation in Brazil has fallen sharply since the first half of last decade when the government rolled out a plan to control Amazon...
