Reuters: Greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. power plants fell 4.6 percent in 2011 as more generators were switched to cleaner-burning natural gas and renewable sources from coal, according to new data from the Environmental Protection Agency. The agency's second inventory of greenhouse gas emissions reported by the country's largest industrial polluters showed that power plants - which account for one-third of U.S. emissions - released 2.22 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in 2011....

EPA posted second year of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data on its website, which provides public access to emissions data by sector, GHG, and geographic region. EPA's Gina McCarthy commented that this second data release will let people track and compare facilities' GHG emissions and identify opportunities to cut pollution, minimize wasted energy, and save money. Oregon DEQ Fines Recycler for Excess Emissions

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued $8,700 in penalties to American Recyclers LLC for burning used fuel oil in its boilers that exceeded the limit for sulfur set in the company's air permit and for failing to analyze samples of the fuel oil prior to burning.
