For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a Data Processing Service Engineer in order to assist in the data processing and software system engineering activities for the operational and future programmes within the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area DPSA CA, including processing frameworks. The areas of work in the scope of the DPSA CA activities are the following The full engineering lifecycle of future Data Processing systems and applications for programmes under development. Maintenance of Data Processing SystemsApplications Requirements full lifecycle for Online Data Acceptance, Product Generation, Encoding and Delivery and Offline Analysis and Reporting systems, and including their Reprocessing equivalents as used for Climate Record generation Support Management of industrial contracts for the development or maintenance of Data Processing Systems and Applications Data Processing SystemsApplications interfaces engineering Generation of prototypes and development plans and where relevant their implementation Contribute to Integration, Verification and Validation Test campaigns Generation, maintenance and evolution of Data Processing SystemsApplications Maintenance Plans Contribute to the consolidation and evolution of processes, standards, methodologies, tools, elements, and facilities for data processing of science data for operational and future programmes Maintenance and evolutions of Data Processing SystemsApplications for existing and under evolutions programmes Provision of relevant inputs in area of responsibility to the midterm evolution planning MTEP for the evolution of operational systems and the implementation of the evolutions. Tasks and Responsibilities The typical tasks of the Data Processing Engineer will be Contribute to the definition, design, implementation and maintenance of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components with special emphasis on product quality control, calibration and validation, production monitoring and reporting. This task will mainly include Maintenance and evolutions of applications system in the area of the Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Multi Mission Element framework and in all its components Configuration Management, building and distribution of applications software releases and patches Contribution to applications software system design and reengineering in the area of the Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Multi Mission Element framework Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments and their maintenance and evolution. This will also include upgrade software, including implementing and maintaining new algorithms for product quality control and calibrationvalidation activities Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Contribute to the Configuration Management process and the building and distribution of software releases and patches Contribute to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification. Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies Perform standard SW engineering activities such as SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected SW integration and verification in the ground segments Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, Contribute to the procurement and installation of software, and the coordination with external providers of support services Participation in meetings and formal reviews. Skills and Experience Profile The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in the relevant discipline engineering, physics, software or similar Relevant experience in preparation of requirements, design, interfaces and testing documentation for data processing systems considering the systems engineering aspects of data processing management and data provision experience of data processing for high data rate missions andor Earth Observation missions is an asset but is not mandatory Experience in SW design, SW development, Web applications programming, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of large complex realtime data processing systems for Earth Observation missions. Competence in objectoriented software design and implementation possibly in the context of satellite instrument data processing systems. Ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. very good communication and presentation skills and be able to cope with very high workloads. Moreover heshe shall possess the following mandatory attitudes and attributes relevant for the development of hisher tasks Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of Data Processing applications within the Supporting Application Engineering Team. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context The ability to maintain a system overview is essential. Heshe shall have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan their work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas is mandatory CC programming language experience in a UNIXLINUX based environment Use of application programming of database systems e.g. ORACLE, INFORMIX, PostgreSQL and MySQL Competence in the use of scripting languages e.g. shell scripting, highlevel languages e.g. Python, Java and correspondent using of their libraries Knowledge of web technologies, programming and markup languages e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, UML Knowledge of XML and related technologies XPATH, SVG, etc. Competence in the exploitation of modern hardware and operating systems at the application level e.g. parallel programming pthreads, MPI, OpenMP Familiarity with data formats used for meteorological satellite products Design and implementation of MMI using different toolkits and languages Desirable Skills and Experience Previous experience and knowledge in any of the following areas will be considered an additional asset Experience with the programming and usage of IDL and Fortran Experience in Web Programming Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation Experience in system design for quality control and calval systems Knowledge of relevant Standards, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management principles and applications Be able to work with a high degree of autonomy and to demonstrate good analytical skills. For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineer to assist in the specification, preliminary design, procurement, integration, testing and transfer to operations of Data Processing elements for future programmes under development and the maintenance and evolution of data processing systems and applications for existing programmes. Tasks and Responsibilities Provide engineering consultancy to the future programmes ground segment data processing team as well as to the Operations department in the frame of maintenance and evolution of the current data processing systems Support activities related to initially Phase B followed by phases CD of the future mandatory programmes in the area of data processing engineering In the detail the candidate shall perform the following tasks Phase CD Contribute to the procurement of data processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the contractor and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements Contribute to the management of the requirements baseline for data processing elements Contribute to refinement of ICDs Contribute to testing, integration and acceptance of data processing elements. In Phase E Contribute to maintenance activities, including characterisation of system component behaviour against required performance, proposal and implementation of system alterations including component modification to achieve required performance. Contribute to evolution activities, including conceptual design, requirements specification, functional modelling, system analysis, and concept development to support increased performance, rationalisation of components, and cost reduction. In addition, there will be regular involvement in the following tasks requiring interaction and coordination with other teams at System and Ground Segment level Review of System, Space Segment and Ground Segment documentation dealing with requirements, concepts, algorithms and technical analyses of relevance for data processing, including review of instrument data processing algorithms and calibration concepts defined by the Space Segment with emphasis on their implications on Ground Segment data processing concepts, interfaces and architecture Participation in formal reviews and technical meetings at System and Ground Segment level. Review of documentation dealing with technical evolutions of the customers infrastructure Skills and Experience Profile The following skills and experience are mandatory. University degree in engineering, physics or software Relevant experience in preparation of requirements, design, interfaces and testing documentation for data processing systems for Earth Observation missions experience on data processing for high data rates missions will be considered an asset. Relevant experience with L1L2 processing software for Earth Observation missions, either for operationsmaintenance or specification and development. Knowledge of the requirements engineering process, including relation between requirements, ICDs, design and testing documentation. Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of future programmes. For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a Data Circulation Test engineer who will typically be involved in tasks related to the VV activities, hisher activities will be an input for the overall system and ground segment VV activities. Tasks and Responsibilities Typical tasks include Creation and maintenance of the IVV system data circulation test plan, test specification and test procedures, test tools and test data. Coordination and supervision of the execution of the system data circulation tests this includes coordination with external entities i.e. partners and industry as well as internal teams at the customer e.g. OGS and MME teams, to harmonize tests with simulated and real external interfaces. For all relevant test activities consolidation of the test results, generation of test reports and performance of the necessary analysis. Identification of the suite of test tools and test data required to support VV activities. Contribution to the inhouse development and validation of test tools and their maintenance. Contribution to the acceptance of test tools test data provided by partner agencies, i.e. instrument data simulator and ground processor prototype. Contribution to the preparation and execution of VV tests of endtoend processing chains, such as preparation of test specifications and procedures, test tools and test data. In addition the candidate will be involved in Development of test tool and test data. Participation in relevant internal and external meetings. Regular review of future programmes documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools test data. Analysis of documents provided by other teams in the organization and by external partners. Contributing to the preparation of documentation for the mission system level reviews. Some activities will involve interactions with other teams, and also, as relevant for the work, with engineers at partner agencies. Skills and Experience Profile The following skills and experience are mandatory. University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent Proven experience in the verification and validation of large complex systems, with at least 3 years of general experience with onground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation. Handson involvement in data circulation VV activities including generation of test plan, test specification, procedures and test reports for endtoend processing chains. At least 3 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards. Some experience with definition and development of test tools and generation of test data sets. System requirements management and functionalarchitectural modelling, with support of tools e.g. DOORS. Configuration Control processes and tools. Familiarity with the ECSS standards. The keyperson shall have furthermore the following skills be able to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision and systematic approach to work, be able to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation good skills in higher programming language e.g. C, Fortran,... working with UNIX and Linux operating systems good communication skills verbal and written and be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
