Xiaomi unveils 3 devices, to enter 10 new countries

(Telecompaper) Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has introduced three new products and unveiled further expansion plans. The company introduced the Mi Router with 802.11ac support and a 1 TB hard disk, which will be retailing for CNHY 699, and the Mi Router Mini in a variety of colours, priced at CNY 129. The third product is the Mi Box enhanced edition. The device supports 4K Ultra HD, is powered by a 4 GHz quad-core processor, comes with 2 GB of ram and 4 GB eMMC flash, and supports 802.11ac. The set-top box is priced at CNY 399. Xiaomi also unveiled it would enter ten new countries this year: Malaysia, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, followed by Russia, Turkey, Brazil, and Mexico.

An Android Trojan app that sends SMS messages to premium-rate numbers has expanded globally over the past year, racking up bills for users in over 60 countries including the U.S., malware researchers from Kaspersky Lab said. The malware program, which Kaspersky products detect as Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakeInst.ef, dates back to February 2013 and was originally designed to operate in Russia.
