Rwanda launches first 'Made in Africa' smartphones

(Telecompaper) Rwanda' Mara Group has launched two smartphones, describing them as the first "Made in Africa" models, Reuters reported. They will run on Android and the Mara X will cost RWF 175,750 and the Mara Z, RWF 120,250.  They will compete with Samsung, whose cheapest smartphone costs RWF 50,000 and non-branded phones at RWF 35,000.

The European Union (EU) has started negotiations with five Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) countries - including clothing producers Madagascar, Mauritius - to deepen the existing Economic Partnership Agreement to include areas such as technical barriers to trade, IP and sustainable development.

Vodafone trialling OpenRAN technology in Europe and Africa to improve rural networks and expand suppliers

(Telecompaper) Vodafone said it has begun testing open access radio technology in Europe for the first time with a view to increasing the number of companies that can supply mobile network equipment to telecom operators and connecting more of the world's most rural communities using standardised, lower cost systems. In a statement, the company announced the first European tests of OpenRAN in the UK and may extend to more of its markets on the continent.

(NESR), a national provider of integrated energy services in the Middle East and North Africa and Asia Pacific, on Oct. 1 reported multiple awards in North Africa valued up to $100 million. The awards are for well intervention services for a period of up to three years.
