Mweb to expand Wi-Fi network with Fon
2014-01-16 16:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) South Africa ISP Mweb has announced a new partnership with Wi-Fi provider Fon. The deal gives Mweb ADSL customers with a Fon-enabled router access to Fon's global community of 12 million Wi-Fi users who share their connections with each other. Using their ADSL login details, Mweb customers with a Fon-enabled router can access the Fon network of hotspots, which currently includes Mweb WiFi Zones and 750 AlwaysOn hotspots in South Africa. More than 30,000 hotspots across the country are expected by the end of 2014. To immediately increase the residential and small office footprint, existing and new Mweb ADSL customers will be offered a free Fon upgrade, including a Fon-enabled Wi-Fi router and Wi-Fi range extender. Mweb CEO Derek Hershaw said the new Fon relationship will complement Mweb's existing WiFi zones and will give customers access to cost-effective, quality mobile internet access and a growing network.
