GSA AND GALILEO SERVICE DEPARTMENT The European GNSS Agency GSA announces a traineeship opportunity for European students and recent graduates. The GSA is responsible for the operations and service provision of the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems GNSS EGNOS and Galileo. The Galileo Services Department is in charge of managing execution of the Galileo exploitation phase in compliance with the European Commission EC GSA delegation agreements, controlling the associated schedule, costs and risks. The department is also responsible for managing the Galileo infrastructure operations, maintenance, protection, ongoing improvement and evolutions activities, through associated contracts andor working arrangements. It manages the standardisation activities associated with the Galileo Programme as well as the operational interfaces and services provision to the Galileo users. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The trainee will be expected to carry out, under supervision, the following duties Contribute to the assessment of the Galileo performance of current services and their proposed updates, and the elaboration of the monthly and quarterly performance reports Contribute to the management of the technical baseline for the Galileo services, regarding the improvement of the configuration control tools and processes Support the team activities, notably for the preparation of meetings with stakeholders and the elaboration of technical documentation ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA The traineeship is open to applicants who have not previously undertaken a traineeship at the GSA and who meet the following requirements Have a nationality of any Member State of the European Union or Norway Possess or pursue a recognised higher education degree university education or equivalent, evidencing completion of a full cycle of study, or in the case of candidates who are at the end of their studies, an official attestation from their university or school stating the marks obtained Have an initial experience or specific expertise in one of the areas of work of the Agency obtained either through specialisation as part of the applicants studies for a university degree, a dissertation or other research project conducted as part of their studies or through professional experience or a previous traineeship or otherwise Possess a thorough knowledge of one official language of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Union one of these languages must be the working language of the Agency English Have a clean criminal record SELECTION CRITERIA The applications will be assessed against the following criteria Education or work experience in the area of computer systems, in particular addressing Linux, shellpythonperl programming, graphical generation tools e.g. gnuplot, databases Knowledge by training or experience of the principles of systems engineering Knowledge of satellite navigation systems, in particular data processing is desirable Experience of multicultural environments, ideally through previous work experience or study abroad Effective communication skills, including the ability to summarise information Structured approach in solving problems Good organisation skills APPLICATION PROCEDURE In order to be considered for this position, candidates need to create an account by registering via the GSA erecruitment tool. In addition to geostationary satellites, the EGNOS infrastructure is composed of uplink stations, processors, reference stations, control centres and support facilities, within Europe and nearby.
