Microsoft's revenue in the quarter ended Dec. 31 came in at $24.51 billion, exceeding the consensus expectation of $23.68 billion from Wall Street analysts polled by Thomson Financial.

(Telecompaper) Microsoft posted revenue of USD 18.53 billion for the quarter ended 30 September, up year-over-year from USD 16.01 billion. Its gross margin increased to USD 13.42 billion from USD 11.84 billion, and operating profit rose to USD 6.33 billion from USD 5.31 billion. Net income for the fiscal first quarter was USD 5.24 billion or USD 0.62 per share, up from USD 4.47 billion or USD 0.53 per share.

Microsoft's revenue and earnings per share grew more than 15 percent each in its first fiscal quarter of 2014, during which enterprise server software products sold particularly well, the company said Thursday. Microsoft generated revenue of $18.5 billion in the quarter, ended Sept. 30, up 16 percent compared with last year's first quarter and topping the $17.8 billion consensus estimate of Wall Street analysts polled by Thomson Financial.
