It's only November, but it looks as if United Airlines' great winter shrinking act has already begun. The carrier, the largest serving Los Angeles International Airport, has released its November operations results, and the numbers show that during the month both the carrier's traffic decreased 0.3 percent year over year and its capacity decreased 0.4 percent year over year.

Yale Environment 360: As this NASA satellite image shows, Lake Ebinur, located in northwestern China near the border of Kazakhstan, has shrunk by 50 percent since 1955 as a result of development, agriculture, and natural fluctuations in precipitation. The lakes saline water is light blue, and the dried lake bed appears white due to salts and other minerals that have been left behind as the water evaporates.
